Ah Markey's garage. Old Mark Patterson had the petrol station - refused to put petrol in any Japanese cars as I recall due to his war experiences.

Yes I remember a number of local 9th Battalion Royal Northumberland Fusiliers veterans had a hatred of all things Japanese after their time spent in captivity. I think most of those men are now sadly passed away.

Warkworth Beach Visitor
Remember this 1980ish? The base of the stern/engine room is all that is left on the beach, opposite the golf club.Thank goodness the 1000 tonnes of turkey feed has gone. Story I heard was that it had anchored off Alnmouth with engine trouble, but subsequently dragged its anchor and came ashore due to a nor-easterly gale.
It was broken up on the beach and carted away, the wood sleepers on the beach walkway in the dunes down from the car park were put in to make the salvage easier and never removed. Last edited by hollydog; 28-01-2012 at 08:19 PM. Reason: spelling! |

I remember that one and was looking for some info on it a while back to include it in a list of shipping losses, but couldn't find anything. I didn't unfortunately take a camera when I went to look at it.
What's your best guess on the year of this? - early 80s I agree, maybe even 1980? |
