Default FindmyPast New Records

You may be interested in the latest records to go online at FmP. Electoral registers 1832 to 1932 and Absent Voters Lists 1918 to 1921.

I haven't taken a look yet as Friday is always one of the site's more hectic days, but it sounds promising.

Well, not quite as good as I thought, the data is incomplete

The AV lists only cover Newcastle districts currently. Still, patience is a virtue.

It will be good when it's finished.

Some of the 1918 AV lists for the North East no longer exist. Or I should say that is the case regarding Woodhorn, if I've been informed correctly. Tynemouth is missing at Woodhorn, one that I desperately wanted to see. Some of the Wansbeck/Morpeth areas too.

I would be ecstatic if a full set of lists resided elsewhere.

Here's the constituency list they have so far. Many more to add I hope:

For Northumberland they only have four, which are in Newcastle- and they are not the important spring 1918 lists.

I noticed the link to the 1939 records, or what will I assume become the entry page for them, has now appeared on the website's top menu - must be close to going live.

Sneaky buggers. I bet quite a few have renewed annual subscriptions through this year in expectation of getting at the 1939 records. Still be charging their subscribers an additional charge!

Default William Percy Bell

...this seems like a good place for this....
I’m trying to confirm a link between William Percy Bell, the husband of my Great Aunt, Elizabeth Ann Smailes and a William Percy Bell from Byker, son of Edward Bell(1852) the landlord of The Byker Tavern in 1880’s who had 4 children W.P.Bell, Margaret NOBLE Bell, Jacob Coxon Bell & Isabella Bell.
Jacob Coxon Bell emigrated to Canada and inlisted but was killed in France, he has a next of kin as his sister Isabella Winter ‘nee Bell living in Amble (1901 Middleton St) (1911 Acklington Rd) who has a child called Agnes NOBLE Winter(1903)
My G Aunt & W.P.Bell living in Canada named one of their 12 children Alfred NOBLE Bell but I haven’t found out where the ‘Noble’ comes from.
The Smailes lived in Byker prior to 1901 when they were living in Stanners as I have mentioned in other posts.
William Percy seems to have come back from Canada in 1905 to get himself a wife – my Great Aunt aged 18 when W.P Bell was 30, it doesn’t seem to improbable that they knew each other’s families, do you think the W.P Bells are one and the same.?are the Winters still in Amble?

William Percy was the son of Edward Bell, as you mention, and Agnes Hannagan from Scotland. Both Edward and Agnes died in the 1880s leaving a young family who were taken in by a maiden aunt, Elizabeth, living in Rothbury.

Agnes' mother was a Margaret Noble which is where the name comes from and William had a sister, Margaret Noble.

Thanks for a quick reply janwhin, I have seen the family you mention but I am trying to confirm that the William Percy was the same person that married Elizabeth Ann Smailes.
The 'Noble' does infer a link with Alfred Noble Bell, Eliz Ann's son.
