Default Old Quarry

This is Warkworth anyone know where it actually is . I saw this a couple of years ago n took pics next time went was covered up .

Well that's an interesting one. Never seen it before. Is it Birling Carrs? - I'm just saying that as it's the only place I can think of with rock on the shore near Warkworth.

Just North of the red Burn at KillieCrankie Caravan site. extensive works there no idea how old . sent pics to Archaeologists they had no idea, one theory was a local builder ,or stone for Shortridge/northfield??

Stone for Buston Granary is another possible, that's not too far away.

There is a reference in he County History to a survey of 1567 which mentions the freestone quarries of Newtown and Birling which produced grindstones and were a major "export" along with fish at the time.
There is a later reference to the Birling freestone quarry, along which the main road north of the river now goes, which produced the stone for the castle and eventually grindstones.

That's a second specialist use outside of building materials we have for the local stone. [Also water filters from quarries Amble]
