I would say he's a Second Officer, if forced to make a decision.

another uniform id.
Hi - I have been told this is the uniform of the Northumberland Yeoman army Boer war. Does that mean anything to anyone.?
Thanks again. |

Hi Gordon, he's wearing the 1903 pattern bandolier so this must be post Boer War. This bandolier was designed for mounted men - cavalry, mounted artillerymen etc. (inc Yeomanry, so he could be North'd Hussars?)

He's actually got his cap on his knee...and I'm sure that is the tip of a Royal Artillery cap badge you can see.

Cheers Mike, but this doesn't mean anything to me. Are you saying it is not a Boar uniform, and I had no idea what a Northumberland Yeoman was from my question, was quoting the note on the back....Gord

Hi - Any idea what Rowlands uniform was - was he a cook?

You've got me with that one. I would guess at cook like you say. The sign says Regimental Headquarters, 12 troop, 26th Field Regiment Royal Artillery (abbreviated) Is that his unit do you think? I can't help feeling he's not wearing and Artillery cap badge though.

Can you get a more detailed scan of the man, in particular his beret?

Hi Gordon, thanks for the close up. Looks like it could be a Catering Corps cap badge.

My first impression with the photo is it's somewhere hot. Middle East or similar.
