Charles Johnson bandmaster of Amble, Broomhill and Shilbottle
Charles Johnson was a talented musician - who organised the miners of the district into bands.
I loved the comment about him walking to Broomhill for practice.
Sounds like he and his bands won many competitions with ease.
“The Amble and Radcliffe band had for some time before WW2 been appointed the official band of the Northumberland Fusiliers”
He died at a young age of 55 - which must have been felt deeply by the area’s bandsmen
