Walter Lamb was 5’ 7½’’ tall, black hair, brown eyes, and he was 24 years 7 months of age when he enlisted into the Northumberland Hussars Yeomanry as a Private on the 18th September 1914. He joined for four years or the duration of the war. An Engineering Draftsman, he served his apprenticeship with the North Eastern Marine Engineering Company. He spent three months with the Northumberland Hussars before receiving a commission and joining ‘I’ company 22nd (Service) Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers (3rd Tyneside Scottish) as Second Lieutenant.
