General Records Office Birth and Death Certificates

I don't know if members have picked this up but the GRO has entered the 21st Century. Birth registrations between 1837 and 1915 now have an online search facility which gives the mother's maiden name. Death registrations between 1837 and 1957 now give the age at death.
The online search facility is available at https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/c...indexes_search. You will need to register, if you haven't already done so. Certificates can then be ordered digitally (PDF) or, as normal. Digital is cheaper.

Thanks for the heads up on that Janwhin. Very handy indeed.
I wonder what the quality of the digital download versions are? Some of their printed ones are not too good to say the least.

I'll have a look at what I need and try a downloadable one soon.

I haven't ordered a digital copy so will be interested to hear if they scrub up better than the hard copy.

Thanks Janwin.
At long last I have been able to confirm the maiden name of my 2x Great Grandmother!!
Useful addition to the toolbag

Well....I ordered a birth certificate in pdf email format on the 16th but it looks like it will take longer than a paper one by post! Still waiting....

Their pdf pilot has been swamped :D
