Hi all, I have been browsing through the site and find it fascinating. Have lived in Amble since a babe in arms,also worked for many years in the town before retiring. Was interested in SS Chevington as my grandfather was Chief Engineer from 1924 until 1941 when it was torpedoed, he survived and served on SS Bondicar until 1942.

Hi MAGS,your grandfather probably served on the Bondicar with my grandfather,Robert Mitchell.He was on the Bondicar from approx 1939-45,i have tried to find his name on a crew list but failed,i think i would have to go in person to the national archives and look.
He was from Alnwick originally then moved to Amble in the 1930s.
